Through the Family & Carer Eating Disorder Recovery Coaching sessions (virtual or in-person), you will be equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills to better understand your loved one and where they are in their recovery journey. Comprehending where they are coming from, understanding their perspectives and the mindset that defines their reactions, resistance, ambivalence, choices and behaviors, helps to enhance your empathy as well as your confidence in supporting them during challenging times.
The goal is to offer advice and guidance to parents, partners and anyone that is part of a sufferer’s support system, addressing their concerns and questions relative to all dimensions and expressions of their loved one’s battle and stage of recovery as well as sharing knowledge on eating disorders (what they are, how they develop, how one can heal from them), the recovery process itself ( what to expect, what tools you need to be equipped with to deal with the various stages of it as well as the sufferer’s fluctuating motivation and patience, the dos and don’ts and the art of mastering a constructive code of communication that fosters togetherness versus power struggles).
These sessions introduce family members and significant others, to the concept of Eating Disorder self and Healthy self.
The Family & Carer Eating Disorder Recovery Coaching sessions talk to family members and significant others about common incidences and discuss respective guidelines. They are a way to empower your own selves and a reminder that parenting is like therapy, and that your presence counts and can contribute to a great extent towards their healing and lasting recovery. The objective is to grant you a repertoire of practice and emotional skills and tools in how to manage real life situations with your loved one: from how to create a safe, and ED trigger free environment, to practical insights in dealing directly with the food and effective meal support, to navigating along with them situations like shopping, cooking, buying clothes and dealing with body changes, to responding to comments they make when resistance takes over and the ED urges surface, and so on.
